About Ebisu
Ebisu is a Japanese lifestyle store brand with a growing presence across the United States, headquartered in the Atlanta metro area (Duluth, Georgia). Each Ebisu location brings together an authentic selection of Japanese snacks and beverages, beauty and skincare products, anime collectibles, blind boxes, household goods, and everyday Japanese imports — products that are genuinely hard to find in mainstream US retail.
Ebisu's customer base spans Japanese expatriates looking for familiar products from home, Asian culture enthusiasts, and mainstream US shoppers increasingly interested in Japanese goods. The combination creates a retail environment that requires both cultural fluency and operational precision: the product mix is wide, inventory turns at different rates across categories, and the customer experience — from product authenticity to in-store feel — is central to the brand's identity.
The Challenge: Running a Specialty Retail Chain Across Multiple States
Expanding a specialty import retail concept across multiple US states introduces operational challenges that generic retail systems handle poorly.
- A highly diverse product catalog with international barcodes. Ebisu's inventory spans Japanese, Korean, Thai, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Chinese products — each with its own barcode format (JAN, EAN, UPC), language, and supplier. Managing this mix across locations requires a system that handles international product data without friction.
- Inventory visibility across locations. Popular seasonal items and limited-edition products sell out differently at each location. Without real-time cross-store inventory visibility, headquarters had limited ability to redistribute stock or identify which locations were running low on fast-moving items.
- No unified customer membership. Loyal customers who visit multiple Ebisu locations expected a consistent experience — but without a shared membership system, their purchase history and rewards didn't follow them from store to store.
- Multi-location reporting from a single dashboard. As the chain grew, comparing performance across locations — which stores were driving the most revenue, which product categories were growing, which locations needed restocking attention — required pulling data manually from each store system.
"Our customers come from all over — Japanese expats, local college students, tourists. They might visit our Atlanta store one week and our Knoxville store the next. We needed one system that worked the same way everywhere and that our customers could count on wherever they shopped with us."

Why Pospal Across All Locations
Ebisu chose to standardize on Pospal across all US locations rather than running different systems at each store. The decision was driven by three operational priorities:
- International barcode and product support. Pospal handles JAN, EAN, and UPC barcodes natively. Japanese-language product names display correctly on POS terminals. Products from multiple countries of origin can be cataloged, priced, and tracked in the same system without workarounds.
- Chain headquarters console. A single login gives the Atlanta headquarters real-time visibility into sales, inventory levels, and top-performing products across every location. Stock transfers between stores are tracked in the system. When a new product arrives at a central warehouse, it can be pushed to all store catalogs simultaneously.
- Shared membership program. Ebisu customers earn and redeem points at any location. A customer enrolled in Duluth retains their points balance and tier status when they visit the Knoxville store. Birthday promotions and loyalty rewards are managed centrally and apply chain-wide.
How It Works Day-to-Day
🏪
Retail POS — All Store Formats
Fast barcode scanning for packaged goods, manual entry for untagged items, and a product catalog shared across all locations. Staff at any store can look up any product in the system, including items stocked at other locations.
📦
Inventory Management
Stock levels update in real time with every transaction. Low-stock alerts notify staff before items run out. For seasonal or limited-edition products, headquarters tracks depletion rates across all stores and can redistribute inventory as needed.
🎁
Member Loyalty — Chain-Wide
Points, membership tiers, and birthday coupons work at every Ebisu location. Customers sign up at the register with a phone number — no app download required. Purchase history is stored centrally, enabling personalized promotions based on each member's buying habits.
📊
Multi-Location Analytics
The Atlanta headquarters dashboard shows all stores' daily revenue, top-selling products, and inventory positions in one view. Category-level performance reports help buyers decide which product lines to expand and which to reduce at each location.

Cross-location stock visibility and transfer tracking
Operations run consistently across all states. Every Ebisu location uses the same POS interface, the same product catalog structure, and the same reporting format. Staff training is consistent. When a new process or promotion is introduced at headquarters, it applies to all locations without requiring each store to update separately.
Headquarters has real-time visibility across the chain. The Atlanta operations team monitors all store performance from a single dashboard — tracking which locations are busiest, which product categories are moving fastest, and where inventory needs attention. This visibility lets the team make stocking and pricing decisions based on chain-wide data rather than individual store reports collected manually after the fact.
Customers experience a consistent brand across locations. A member enrolled at one Ebisu location finds their points balance intact at any other location they visit. Promotions and seasonal campaigns are coordinated centrally and deploy to all stores simultaneously. The customer experience of the brand — not just the product selection — is consistent wherever they shop.
"Pospal lets us manage all our stores the way you'd expect a chain to work — one system, one view, one membership. When we open a new location, it plugs into the same setup we already have. That's what makes expansion manageable."
